I'm overweight, can I still have Lipodissolve?

I am interested in Lipodissolve but I am overweight and wondering if I can have Lipodissolve for localized areas only? I am aware it's not a weight-loss solution.

A: Don't try Lipodissolve

Richard P. Rand, MD

Even if you weren't overweight, I wouldn't recommend Lipodissolve. The studies on this aren't in to determine if it is safe or effective. Wait til then and try a better diet and exercise program for now.

A: Excercise and sensible eating are the best treatments

Robert M. Freund, MD

In a nutshell, the best way to lose weight in a sensible and reproducible way is to eat and exercise in a manner that you can tolerate and not feel that you are suffering. My keys to weight loss for my patients include; DIET 1- Eat breakfast always. 2- Eat a protein for breakfast. 3- Eat smaller meals every 3... more

A: Lipodissolve probably not a great choice for you

Shahram Salemy, MD

It's difficult to comment too much without first examining you, but in general invasive treatments of any kind, even lipodissolve, are probably not the best answer if you're overweight. Diet and exercise work best to get you closer to your goal weight, size and shape, and surgery or other interventions may... more

You are correct that lipodissolve (or any other lipo procedure) is not a weight loss program.  The old standbys of good diet and regular exercise are still the safest and healthiest methods of getting rid of unwanted fat.  That being said, we are all genetically predisposed to accumulating fat in areas that bother us.  Lipodissolve, SmartLipo, tumescent liposuction, VASER lipo etc... are all good methods for getting rid of localized spots.  The smaller the spot typically yields better results.

I am over weight myself and have had lipo disolve. I can tell you it is NOT worth it. You go throught this crazy emotional roller coaster, you will not see results with one treatment (usually after 3-4) if at all and each area can only be treated again after 4 weeks and if you experience the same thing I did you are still to sore and uncomfortable to want someone to stick more needles in the area again and start over. The pain and swelling are very intense not to meantion it lasts for weeks. I wasted a lot of money and time with no results, at first you think you can see a flatter appearance but the swelling is so inconsistent it's hard to tell. I think I actually lost weight after the proceudure because I did not feel like eating but then gained it back. After that being frustrated and despirate I had liposuction from my rib cage to my knees and saw results after a few months but my body felt so soft and mis shapen, not the feminine curves I was looking for, Not to meantion the down time. It literally took me 3-4 months to feel close to normal, with the first 2-3 month unable to walk normal or bend over with out looking like frankenstein. I then researched the vaser lipo procedure and was and still am extremely pleased with the results. Not only was the discomfort after the procedure very tollerable the results were almost instant and the whole procedure was done while I was awake (on painkillers, muscle relaxers and nerve medication)but I was very relaxed and AWARE. I plan to have other areas treated. You can see my before and after pictures on my profile, the before pictures are acually the after pictures of the liposuction procedure, no difference in the post liposuction pics. I wish I had known about Vaser before my expensive quest for a better body it was definitly money better spent. Although there is not much difference in my weight only 15 lbs or so I have went down 6 inches in midsection and 5 inches in my lower abs. I literally have hardly any love handles left, I feel great.
