Specific Ingredients in Skin Lightening Lotions

I am African American and my skin tone is overall brownish tan. Due to excessive sun exposure, the skin on my face, neck, and arms became somewhat darkened. Lately, I have only been using Curel Youth Defense Lotion. While using this lotion mainly on hands and arms, I noticed that my skin in those areas were becoming lighter; towards my original skin tone. Are there specific ingredients in the lotion that would cause this? Will it hopefully give the same results for my face and neck?
