How should my skin type affect which skin care products I choose?

Consumers are truly confused about how to care for their skin and reason being because most people have more than dry, normal and oily concerns going on with their skin and most skin care lines still cater to these very generic skin types.
Let’s say you’re 40 years old, you still produce some oil, still get occasional breakouts, and have sensitivity, but now you’re really seeing the signs of aging. If you use acne products, then you’re only going to dry out the skin and none of your anti-aging concerns are being address, yet if you use products design for aging, they will be too greasy and add to your oil/breakout problems.
My recommendation is that you take all of your skin care concerns, and incorporate one product in your routine that addresses each concern. So you might use an acne cleanser, and then use an anti-aging toner and then a sensitive skin moisturizer. The goal is try to get a balance with your skin, then using a line that only focuses on one concern. But here’s the most important part…LISTEN TO YOUR SKIN.
If your skin feels tight and dry after washing, then the cleanser is too harsh, if your moisturizer feels heavy and greasy, then it’s too rich and if you use a toner that makes your skin sting and feel irritated, then it’s too strong. Your skin will always let you know what is working and what’s not. Your goal is finding comfort and results, and often times you have to search long and hard to find that perfect fit. To be on the safe side, ask for samples, that way you can try before you buy.
