Having extra teeth

There is no one cause for extra, or supernumerary, teeth. There are many theories as to why they occur, but heredity is considered to be one of the main causes of supernumerary teeth. Since they could prevent other teeth from erupting and can cause displacement or damage to adjacent teeth, they are often extracted.

Not exceedingly common, but fine......

Having extra teeth is condition called hyperdontia. The extra teeth are called supernumerary teeth. It occurs in about 2% of the population and is most prevalent in the upper arch (in the front specifically) but can be found anywhere in either arch. Treatment, depending on their position, is a simple extraction.
