How Long Until I See the Effects of Restylane?
I had restylane injection to my mouth 10 days ago and I dont see much difference. I still have many deep crevices above my lips and the skin is still very discolored.
Can these be fixed with restylane or do I need a different procedure?

The results of Restylane injections are apparent immediately, certainly within 24 to 48 hours. Often times patients do not receive enough filler to make a difference and then feel that the filler did not work. The results from restylane(or any filler) are immediate
Restylane, like all the HA fillers typically produce immediate results. The add volume or lift to the area injected. It may be that you have concerns that are not directly improvable from adding additional volume, such as the color you mentioned.

Restylane is not always the best option
When the right filler is chosen, the full amount needed for correction is used and it is injected in the right level of the defect, the results are immediate and can be dramatic.
If the patient needs more filler than their budget will allow, perhaps other options such as fractional laser resurfacing might be a better choice in long run since the results are more long-lasting and filler is often a poor choice for fine lines (except Cosmoderm).

Effects of Restylane
If the correct choice of filler is done utilizing the correct depth and with the correct amount, the results will be immediate. If you are utilizing an experienced and expert injector, consult with him or her. Restylane Filler should be immediate
You should notice results immediately from your Restylane treatment. If you do not, you may need more filler. Restylane injections should be visible within a maximum of two days after your treatment. Like all HA fillers, the effects should be visible after treatment and even before swelling goes down. Your Restylane treatment should last for 6 months to a year. You may need to schedule another injenction, as some patients requre more filler than others.

Restylane for lip wrinkles (yes) and discoloration (not appropriate).
If you have recently had Restylane (or Juvederm) injected for lip lines and don't feel the lines are fully corrected, see your board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon for an evaluation. You may simply need more filler, or filler placed differently.
If the problem is a different type of wrinkle, or more diffuse sun damage and aging quality of skin texture, you may benefit from chemical peels or certain types of laser treatments in the area.

Restylane Results Show Immediate Results and Continued Improvement

After Restylane injections, you may have a little swelling and bruising that lasts 3-4 days. You should see the results by then. Remember, Restylane is injected into or under the skin, but there are still some skin layers over it and muscle activity remains that may result in persistent lines. The effects of all dermal fillers except for Sculptra are immediate
As stated above, the effects of all the dermal fillers except for Sculptra when done correctly are immediate and should last 4-12 months depending on the area being treated, the filler being used and each individuals personal slow degradation of the product. So if it was done correctly and you are not seeing the desired results, you may have been a better candidate for laser resurfacing such as a TotalFX procedure to improve the lines around your mouth.

Restylane produces immediate results
Restylane is a popular and effective dermal filler. One of the main reasons it is so popular is that it will produce immediate results. If you do not notice significant results, it is most likely that you need additional Restylane injected at the time of your treatment. In our practice, we commonly inject two syringes of Restylane per patient. Patients who need two syringes but choose to receive only one often return in 1 to 2 weeks and receive the second syringe.

Restylane results should be apparent immediately after injection, and we give our patients a mirror immediately after to view their results. Some temporary swelling may occur for a day or two, as well as some minor redness. In many patients, there is some increase in fill noted as the Restylane pulls in water over the next 2-3 days.

Restylane Effects
Restylane along with all other HA fillers are relatively immediate. Some patients experience some swelling but if you’re not noticing any improvement at all you may need more filler. One syringe may not be enough. You could make a follow up appointment and evaluate with your physician, the solution may be just another syringe.

How long for Restylane effects?
The effects of Restylane are usually apparent immediately after the injections. In cases where there is swelling, you must wait until the swelling subsides to see the full effect of the treatment.
If the lines above your lip are still present you have a few options:
More Restylane in the case where not enough was injected.
A few units of Botox to soften the "puckered" look associated with smoker's lines.
Laser resurfacing instead of injectable procedures.

Patch & Paint, or Resurface? Choosing the Right Tool
Generally, injectable fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, etc. should produce immediate improvement of the deep lines and wrinkles around the mouth and face. One potential problem could be that insufficient material was used by the doctor because of cost constraints; alternatively, if the injections were not performed properly (placed too deep), they may not give sufficient improvement of the wrinkles as intended.
