Styling Your Crowning Glory

Besides pictures of your style preferences, you should also be aware of the size of your head in relation to your body, be aware of your hairline both front and back, how high or low do your ears sit, how long is your forehead, how long is your neck, and do you have a crown or double crown to contend with.

OK breathe - then consider the thickness of your hair, whether it's straight or curly, is it coarse or fine and is it in good condition or in need of repair.

OK breathe again. All these things must be taken into consideration when choosing a hairstyle - which, by the way, should give you at least 3 different looks.

And the other consideration, of course, and certainly not the least, is whether you can maintain the style once you get home - that's an essential consideration. However, today with the advent of tons of lotions and potions and the help of clip-in extensions and other styling aids, the world of possibilities opens vastly to giving you a broad selection of choices.

Remember, your hair is your most visible accessory. Does it complement or destroy your look?

Having the appropriate hairstyle is essential. Make sure the style suits you and your lifestyle. Many women are going around with the wrong hairstyle for them. And there are women who do not even bother to place their hair in the back of their head; you know that “bed-head look”. The hair is completely flattened. It looks like they just got out of bed.

“A small detail,” you might say. I say it is an image breaker. For a stylish and polished appearance, it is essential that you not omit this detail. Make sure your hair looks clean and healthy. And never leave your home without looking at yourself in the mirror front and back.

Look through magazines to get an idea of what you like and don’t like. Tear the pages out and take along with you when you go to the salon.

Go to the salon for a consultation (most good salons offer this service free of charge), especially if you want a big change, so you can discuss your style before committing to an appointment. Try and go on a weekday rather than a Saturday, which is always the busiest day and you may not get the attention you want.

Be honest with your hairdresser about how much time and effort you’re going to put into your look. What you like and dislike and what your lifestyle is.

Listen to the advice you’re given and don’t be afraid to ask any questions if in doubt. If you are not happy with his/her suggestions go to another salon. Never feel intimidated into having something you are not happy with.

Remember, you don’t have to leave the salon with the latest trend. Finding a style that suits you is what really counts.
