Start Botox early for crow's feet prevention
Debbie Friant, PA-C
Botox is number one for prevention of crow's feet. The time to start is before you start to get them. Women in their late 20's will start getting botox in order to stave off the start of these lines. I’ve gotten women who started in their late 20s and 30s.
Botox opens their eyes a little bit more when they smile. When they squint, there’s less of the little lines forming even if they’re not showing when they are at risk. Particularly people with blue eyes are easier squinters. They are affected by the sun more strongly because they don’t have the eye protection. I think these are the people that are going to be great preventatively.
Using goo product around the eyes is also a way to prevent premature crow's feet. This area can become very dehydrated. Use a good antioxidant and rich eye cream for the best result.

Ointments and serums do not help much with crow's feet
Lori Haney, R.N.
I wouldn't recommend spending too much money on serums and ointments that claim to prevent or help reduce the appearance of crow's feet. Although some of these products may offer slight benefits to the texture of the skin in this area and is a good place to start - it is important to understand the the muscle under the skin is contributing to the problem.
Botox used in the muscle area that controls this movement usually offers significant improvement. More and more people in the younger age groups are realizing how therapeutic this is in the prevention of future wrinkles. Most practitioners experienced in the administration of Botox will show you the value of doing a lateral brow lift which will also help with crow's feet. This technique is rather simple and does not require a large amount of Botox.
Also, using a small amount of a filler (ex. Restylan, Perlane) under the the lateral eyebrow area will provide a subtle lifting up of the brow, upper lid, resulting in a subtle lessening of periorbital lines. And, of course, don't forget your sunscreen!

Three steps to prevent crow's feet
Francine Porter
You need a good three part strategy to address the three issues in preventing and reducing crow’s feet:
- Prevent repeated facial movements in this area with a cosmeceutical product that contains ingredients that relax the muscles (like the tetra peptides) or if you’re ready for a more invasive approach, get a Botox injection… it’s extremely effective in this area.
- Wear a moisturizing eye cream that contains peptides for collagen building and a sunscreen to prevent UV damage.
- Wear sunglasses with the best UV protection available.

Sunscreen, no smoking, and Botox to prevent crow's feet
Dr. Gregory A. Wiener
- Always wear sun protection daily - whether you are tanning or just spending time outside you should be protecting your skin.
- Refraining from smoking will also improve the skin tone in the area.
- By using Botox 2-3 times a year, you will smooth your crow's feet area and prevent your body from making the wrinkles deeper.
