How can I find age-appropriate fashion trends?
I read beauty magazines and there's a different fashion trend every week. Are these appropriate for someone my age and if not, how do I find fashion trends that are suitable for me?

Inspiration is all around you!
I'm always doing 'hair in my head'. Since I live in NYC & travel a lot, I have many opportunites to be a voyeur: waiting for my flight or walking to the subway. So, my # 1 method of inspiration: I'm always checking out hair & fashion on passer-bys, in store front windows and on sales clerks in retail stores.
Next, I go to Barnes & Noble or Borders & stand in front of the magazine section. I cruise past men's interest, fashion, exercise, food, interior design. And I notice the models, cover shots and real people used in the ads. If I like what I see -- I observe the age, lifestyle, and overall attitude that comes across. Then, I try to imagine if I would be comfortable in the outfit or hairdo I like.
Bottom line: Be observant. Even the people you see on the covers of AARP or newsletters from financial institutes can be insightful.... look for people who are close to your age & decide if you like what you see, then how you can 'knock-off' that look & make it your own.
Last bit of advice: 40 is the new 20; 60 is the new 40. Yup, I'm onboard with that... BUT, remember what we mean when we say those things: it's an attitude, not a hemline. You can feel like a 20 year old... just don't try to dress like one!
Age-appropriate Fashion Trends
The better question is - what suits me and feels and looks good while still keeping somewhat current? - not checking every 20 minutes for what's hot and what's not.
Keep in mind that "trends" are important only to keep the voracious consumerism machine going. So a smart gal, or guy, will buy the classics and keep the trends to accessories. Buying and maintaining classic cuts, fits and looks will take you through each stage as you age and you'll always look good and feel confident.
