Fibrous Papule on Nose

Fibrous papule is a benign growth that is often found on the nose in individuals with history of sun damage. Shave excision by an experienced dermatologist typically offers the best cosmetic outcome. Ablative laser should not be used as a first line unless pathology has been determined and skin cancer ruled out.

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

Excellent question.  Before making the diagnosis of fibrous papule it would be good to know how this diagnosis was reached?  The best diagnosis would be made by a dermatologist with the assistance of dermoscopy and sometimes a biopsy.  Fibrous papule is also known as an angiofibroma and is a benign entity that does not need to be removed for medical reasons.  However you should have a full medical history and examination by a dermatologist because occasionally angiofibromas are associated with syndromes such as tuberous sclerosis complex.  You should not be alarmed but should have complete medical history and examination performed as a precaution. There are many ways to remove a fibrous papule for cosmetic purposes - commonly used methods include shave, electrosurgery, cryotherapy and ablative laser such as CO2 or erbium laser.  I hope this helps.
