Does a History of Bulimia (4-5 Yrs) Put Me at Danger During Surgery for a Breast Augmentation?

           The history of bulimia by itself is not a contraindication.  Are you healthy now?  If you are, how long have you been healthy?  If you still struggle with bulimia, then surgery would not be appropriate.  If you have been healthy for 6 months to a year or more and have gotten counseling, I think you may be a good candidate.  Good luck.

Yes, a history of bulimia does put you at risk during and after surgical procedures. Patients who have these types of eating disorders may have electrolyte abnormalities that can potentially cause cardiac arrhythmias.

 Be very up front and honest with your plastic surgeon who may want to postpone any planned procedure until the eating disorder has been “controlled”.

Bulimia will put you at risk for arrhythmias during surgery.  I would not operate on you if you are still bulimic.
