Rhinoplasty with Hemoglobin AS

You can have a rhinoplasty with Hemoglobin AS, the sickle cell trait. However, you should have a consultation  with  a hematologist as part of your your pre-operative evaluation. Your anesthetist or anesthesiologist may have to make some minor adjustments during surgery, but this is done for many different physical conditions. You will do well.

You will need to have a preoperative clearance by a board certified hematologist before your surgery.  The hematologist will check your  Hemoglobin status and your clotting factors, and will be in the best position to answer your question.  The hematologist will then provide you with a written clearance for surgery, only if they feel that it will be safe for you to have surgery.  It would be wise to do this sooner rather than later, just in the rare chance, you might... more

Rhinoplasty Can Be Safely Performed In Patients With Sickle Cell Trait

Rhinoplasty is not a contraindication in Sickle Cell trait as long as you have been cleared by your physician or hematologist. Problems with Sickle Cell trait are very rare and only can happen with stress affecting your oxygen levels. While any surgery is traumatic it does not constitute an oxygen stress situation since your oxygen levels during surgery are both monitored and supplemented. You should do just with your rhinoplasty procedure.

Sickle trait and rhinoplasty

Sickle cell trait is not an absolute contraindication to having a rhinoplasty.  You should be fine, but I still would have you evaluated by a hematologist just to confirm.

Sickle cell trait is not a contraindication to surgery. you should have your clotting factors checked though to make sure that you don't have blood clotting issues which will make a difference to your surgeon during your operation.
