What exactly in your diet causes eye bags? I already know about water (or lack of water) and sodium. However, what about healthy weight gain, for example, an athlete taking a high protein high carbs diet?

Cause of eye bags
In a young person, eye bags are usually inherited. Treatment is transconjunctival blepharoplasty also called scarless blepharoplasty.
In an older person, eye bags from weakening of tissue (orbital septum) over the fat, allowing it to bulge. Treatment is transconjunctival blepharoplasty and pinch skin excision - or external lower lid blepharoplasty.
Eye bags can appear when taking steroids and from being over-weight.
A high salt intake in some people makes the lower lids puffy but usually not clear bags.
