How to Fix Cheeks From Volume Loss?

Replacing Cheek Volume Loss

Without knowing your age and examining your face it is impossible to give precise advice. However, cheek volume loss can occur from several causes. The most common is aging of the face. It can also occur from weight loss, several diseases and injury. There are also several ways to correct it. For aging, the best method is a vertical facelift like the MACS Lift which preserves the fat in the face and repositions it to where it was originally. Fillers like Radiesse® can also work well. As an alternative to Radiesse® or one of the other off the shelf fillers, fat injection, when done correctly, can obtain excellent results.

Cheek Augmentation can be achieved using Cheek Implants for a permanent cahnge and fillers like Perlane and Radiesse for a temporary augmentation.  We have done both for many years.  Hope this helps

Longer lasting fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra and fat graftings are easier and less invasive methods to replace the lost volume and also to augment the prominence of the flat cheeks. They are less invasive and easier to control and also reversable by passage of time. The surgical options are to place silicone implants in the desired locations.

Volume replacement for cheeks

Deeper fillers such as Sculptra or Radiesse are ideal for restoring volume loss in the cheeks. When strategically injected high along the cheekbones and lateral face, they will also create a much better lifting effect for sagging skin. I also believe longer lasting fillers have many advantages over cheek implants. One obvious advantage is that surgery is not required. Another is that you can get either a rapid or a gradual correction depending upon how many syringes you have injected and you can decide as you go exactly how much correction looks good. Another advantage is that cheek implants may no longer look good in an aging face as it changes over the years. Touch up treatments for fillers can be modified over many years to better fit the aging face.

There are many options to replace cheek volume including:

  1. Injectable fillers (temporary, office procedure)
  2. Cheek implants (permanent, requires sedation in the operating room)

Most patients are happy with the results of both procedures. The main decision is whether you want to undergo a temporary procedure in the office or a permanent result that requires a brief surgery. I hope this information is helpful.
