Question

Is Goldwell hair color the best?

I only recently started having my hair dyed (salt and pepper gray to dark brunette), and my colorist is always singing the praises of the Goldwell hair color she uses.  Since I have no experience with other hair colors, I'm not sure I really trust that Goldwell is the best hair dye.  What other hair dyes are commonly used in reputable salons? If anyone else out there agrees/disagrees about Goldwell being the best, please share why!
Thanks for your help!

Why I love Goldwell haircolor...

Hi Shari,

I've been using Goldwell haircolor here in Los Angeles for over 15 years. There are so many reasons why I would place it on the list of top 3 color lines available in the US today. It's also used by many salons here in LA, particularly Beverly Hills.

Goldwell haircolor has a low ammonia content, so it doesn't leave a horrible after-smell, and it leaves the hair in better condition. The semi-permanent line, Colorance, has panthenol and B-5 in it which are also very conditioning.

Goldwell is continually coming out with new colors about twice per year. They have great educational classes for new colorists, as well as long timers like myself. They have a huge range of colors to choose from. They have a wonderful referral network in case you're moving to a new town, so that you can take your formula with you: 1 800-333-chic. They have great 'at home' products that you can help you to further maintain your color at home, such as colored shampoos, conditioners and mousses. They also have great color charts that let the colorist take the swatch of the chart, so that it can be placed next to your skin to see if it actually looks good on you, before you commit to the color.

Like any color line, you have to know how to use it, or you can still come up with undesirable results... but it's rare.

Hope this helps.

Hi Shari,

With 18 years in the buisiness and having worked with most color lines, I find Goldwell to be the finest with nothing in close second. There are a couple other lines that are quality, but the Goldwell emphasis on maintaining the health of the hair is unmatched. Wella's Koleston Perfect and Color Touch are fine quality, but not with the same finish as Colorance, the goldwell acid balanced color that is used to refresh your fadage and tone highlights. All other color lines are just high profile marketing dollars out to get a share of the market. IT's not a Coke vs Pepsi thing. Many colorists will tell you it's the colorist, not the color, and that is true in cases other than Goldwell. The proof is in the health of your hair and the longevity or your color over time. Also , you must use high quality shampoo, conditioner and always use a leave-in mid lengths through the ends. Hope this is helpful, Paul
