I am 20 years old with very oily , congested, acne scarred and prone skin. In order to lighten red scars and smooth my face I turned to at home peels. When I apply 35% glycolic acid to my face and nothing happens. Why is my skin so resistant to peels? A couple of months ago I tried lactic acid 40% and nothing happened as well. Help!

Answer: Your skin needs to be assessed by a skin-care professional before administering any form of peel.
Using sunless tanners is fine as they do not interfere. Use sunscreen 45 and up, and moisturize.
Mineral make up is also fine to cover the redness after chemical peels. You will need minimal make up to cover the redness.
No, a glycolic acid is not going to help with scars. Glycolic peels help to improve hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, texture, and skin impurities.
Thank you for your question.
It is possible to turn darker after a glycolic peel or other chemical peel in darker skinned patients. It is also possible that a hair removal cream may have irritated you, but that is usually preceded by redness and inflammation prior to the darkening.
