Could You Give Me This Nose? (photo)

Hello! I have been playing with an iphone app and was wondering if it is surgically possible to give me this nose? I like how small the bottom of my nose is yet it is still big which I love. what would it look like from the side? Please let me know what is actually possible or if I am getting my expectations too high. I am scared that my nose will appear to small for my large nostrils if i get a new nose....

Dear Rhino_gal,

Thank you for your question and photos. Well it sounds like you know exactly what you want.  This is good because you will be able to communicate this well with your surgeon. Your morphed images are very obtainable.  Below is an example of something similar in real life.

Best Wishes,

I believe your results could be similar to your morphed photos.  See a board certified surgeon for an evaluation.  Donald R. Nunn MD  Atlanta Plastic Surgeon.

Dear Rhino_gal123,

  1. These results look very reasonable
  2. It would be best to have an exam to give you a better idea of what is possible
  3. When you are ready, see a rhinoplasty specialist who can not only give you the shape you like, and also maintain your breathing passages

Best regards,

Achievable Rhinoplasty Goals

What you are demonstrating with the simulator is a very realistic rhinoplasty result. You will do well with this surgery which is ideally done through an open rhinoplasty approach.

The  Imaged results presented do appear to be a realistic goal regarding a rhinoplasty.  Computer imaging is one form of communication to have with  your surgeon with your  goals in mind. We also have a Virtual Rhinoplasty App our website that you can perform a side profile imaging upon.   Please see  the link below  to our rhinoplasty photo gallery to see what can be accomplished with rhinoplasty in our practice

Understand simulated noses from a computer program are just to give you an idea of "possible" outcomes. There is NEVER a guarantee in final results.

Rhinoplasty and imaging

I certainly think that your desired result is achievable.  That being said, it is important to note that you will not see your final result for 9-12 months after surgery.  You will likely be happy long before that time, but will notice minor changes for many months.  The important issue is whether an "open" or "closed" approach is utilized.  An "open" approach is easier, but may result in prolonged swelling and a scar beneath your nose.  A "closed" approach is much more difficult, but may reduce your swelling and eliminate the external scar.  Regardless, it is very important to see a board-certified Plastic Surgeon, who specializes in rhinoplasty, prior to any procedure.

I think that your goal pic is reasonable and can be achieved with tip refinement.  An alar base reduction may or may not be indicated depending upon physical exam.  You may or may not need dorsal refinement depending upon goals and exam.  Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of rhinoplasties and rhinoplasty revisions each year.  Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results.  Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA
