I heard from a friend that you lose 5 years off your life every time you undergo general anesthesia. It sounds bizarre, but is there any truth to it?

Safety of General Anesthesia
Thank you for asking your question about the after effects of general anesthesia. There is no scientific information that I am aware of to support the notion that general anesthesia will shorten your life span. If you are planning surgery and are nervous about the anesthetic, ask to speak with an anesthesiologist ahead of time to help put your worries to rest.
