Fraxel repair not indicated for keloid in darker skin types

Dear Morocha10,  The Fraxel repair cannot be used for dark skin as it may destroy pigments in the skin and cause lighter scar-like areas (hypopigmentation).  Also, the possible heat injury from the laser may actually make your keloid worse.  So no to the Fraxel repair or any other co2-based laser for you. Hope that was helpful.  Dr. Vartanian from LA.

Best Treatment for Hypertrophic Scars in Dark/Black Skin... Fraxel restore

Hi Mo, Unfortunately Fraxel repair is contraindicated for the treatment of darker skin types because of the risk of hyperpigmentation.  I would recommend sticking with multiple treatments with Fraxel restore for hypertrophied scars in dark skinned patients.  Good luck and be well. Dr. P
