Best Fractional Laser Face Resurfacing for Acne Scars? (photo)

I am 22 and have some mild acne scarring (ice pick scarring and light red spots). I have tried peels (Vi peel, salicylic acid, TCA, etc.) mild lasers (IPL, micro-laser peel, pro-fractional) and microdermabrasion. Some have helped, but I have not received the result I want. I am interested in trying a fractional laser, but with so many options, I am not sure which one is right for me. I have been recommended the pulsed CO2 laser, Syneron eMatrix laser, and the SmartSkin CO2 fractional laser.

There are a number of modalities that can effectively treat acne scars.  The more important starting point is finding the surgeon with reputation, skill, and understanding of your objectives. We like the erbium and profractional lasers.

Acne Scar Treatments - Fractional Lasers Not All They Are Made Out To Be

+1

Having treated a lot of acne scarring and observed my mentor, father and colleague  (Jay Barnett, MD) treat acne scars for over 20 years, I personally do not feel fractionated lasers (any lasers really) improve acne scars, especially considering the amount of money spent.  We get a lot of patients referred to our practice for acne scar consultation who have already undergone more than 4 treatments with fractionated lasers and felt there to be minimal improvement.  Treating acne scars can be difficult, but other treatment modalities in the right hands can be much more effective. These include injectable fillers, light electosurgery, punch excision with or without grafting just to name a few. I recommend you consult with a board-certified dermatologist experienced in treating acne scars who will think beyond just lasers. Click on the link below to view our photo gallery of patients treating with injectable liquid silicone and light electrosurgery to improve their acne scars.
