Are food-grade skin care products the same as organic or natural?

If a skin care product is "food-grade," is that the same as saying it is "organic" or "natural?"

Food grade materials are often natural ingredients, but not always.

In the cosmetic industry it is common to use food grade oils. For instance, olive oil, hazelnut oil and other oils are used extensively in the food and cosmetic industries. Many preservatives are also approved for use in foods and cosmetics. For instance, parabens are food grade preservatives used by both industries, but they are not natural.

Organic materials are often food grade, but you cannot assume that a food grade ingredient is organic. If a company is using organic material for their cosmetics they will be listed as organic in the ingredient list.
