I looked online and am unclear about the difference between marionette lines and naso-labial folds. Typically speaking, can a 51 year old without hardly any wrinkles (olive skin) but getting slight jowls get any benefit from fillers for these two areas? At 51, is fat or chemical fillers better? Thank you!

Marionette lines vs nasolabial folds, what's the difference?
Marionette lines are often called "Howdy Doody" lines as they resemble the mouth of of puppet. They are also known as the pre jowl sulcus, meaning the fold in front of the jowl. The nasolabial fold runs from the corner of the mouth upwards to the sides of the nose. Both can be softened substantially with the use of fillers such as restylane or radiesse, though some contour should be left at the top of the nasolabial fold to demarcate the junction of the cheek and lip.

Difference between marionette lines and nasolabial folds
The difference between marionette lines and nasolabial folds is in their location. Marionette lines run from the corners of the lips downward towards the sides of the chin. Nasolabial folds run from the sides of the nose down towards the corners of the mouth. Both of these areas can be treated with fillers to improve their appearance. Without seeing you or a picture, it's difficult to know if you are a good candidate for these treatments. Generally speaking, chemical peels would not normally help with marionette lines or nasolabial folds. There are a variety of fillers that could be used, including Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra, Artefill, and fat. Your doctor should be able to give you details on the differences between the various fillers.
