Family Member in Operating Room?

Thank you for the question. You may find that there is no standard answer to your question. Every surgeon and/or facility has a policy they follow. In unusual circumstances, where I find it may be beneficial to the patient, a family member may be allowed in the operating room for part or all of the procedure. This is especially true for children about to undergo surgery. I hope this helps.

No family members in the OR

Sometimes patients do not like to hear no, but no it is! No family members are permitted in the operating room. There are many issues including sterility, disruption of the surgeon's concentration by idle chatter, and the need for the staff to focus on you as the patient and not on a third party. Family members can and do faint and should not interject themselves into the surgery. Plastic surgery is not a spectator sport.

Can I Have 1 Family Member in the Surgery Room for a Areola Reduction?

The simple answer is NO! There is a standard of care issue here. I know that you might feel at ease but the issue is what if there started some bleeding and the family present fainted or got in the way of your care. So I usually do not allow.
