I am very concerned about the differences in results. I am scheduled to have a tummy tuck and liposuction of the hips in 6 weeks. I have researched doctors and feel I have chosen one I can trust. I am 43 years old and had a flat stomach and small waist (even after having 3 children) until I had a full hystorectomy 4 years ago. My stomach and waist are now large and jiggly. While researching on tummy tuck, I have seen many before pictures that are similar to my body built; but my concern is the varying after pictures. What are the factors that would determine how successful my tummy tuck will be?

Factors which help determine the outcome of a tummy tuck

They will be able to assess your tissue and determine what combination of procedures will help you meet your needs. In our practice, no two patients are the... more

Surgeon is main factor for Tummy Tuck success

I have had patients tell me that their tummy tuck "didn't take"! It is not that the procedure did not take, it was not done very well in the first place. I think getting a few opinions and looking at before and after pictures is very helpful, and your doctor should be able to show you lots of great results. Sometimes inconsistent results may just be due to poor patient selection. You sound like you are in good shape and not overweight so you should do fine.

The success of a tummy tuck depends on how it is done.

Hi.  Sounds like you are on the right track.  Stick with a surgeon who can show you a lot of good results.  If the surgeon's results are inconsistent, go elsewhere.  Also, ask to speak with a patient of the doctor's who has had a tummy tuck.
