Downtime from Extended Temporalplasty?

I saw a surgeon the other day, and he recommends an Extended Temporalplasty. I am 54, female. He said he would make an incision on the temple (hair line) area, then lift the skin, which would tighten and lift the skin over the cheek area. He would also lift the corner of the eye brow to give a more open eye look. The doctor would also remove excess skin from the upper eyes and "tighten" skin on lower eyes.

What kind of down time is expected from these techniques? Thank you.

Healing time

Dear Irish Eyes Recovery from surgey is variable and will be different for each patient and the surgeon. Careful surgery- precise disection, control of bleeding and post operatvie activity can all have dramatic effects on healing time and of course all of these can be varialbes that can be controlled!! Helpful in recovery are also pre and post operative supplements, creams and forms of light therapy which can speed up healing and improve the rate at which you return to normal energy levels.... more

Extended temporalplasty

It sounds as though your doctor is suggesting a temporal lift through the hairline, with an extension into the midface, along with upper and lower eyelid surgery. All incisions have their pluses and minuses. If you want to read in some detail, you may wish to read our chapter in Mathes Plastic Surgery on the Brow and the Midface (referenced below). There is no single procedure that is right for every patient. This procedure is known for sparing the high forehead look that endoscopic and... more

Two weeks

Most patients are comfortable in public with minimal bruising and swelling by two weeks after surgery. Of course this could vary from patient to patient and surgeon to surgeon.

Surgical recovery varies with the surgeon, the surgery and the patient

This is a wonderful question to ask your doctor directly. None of knows exactly what he will be doing in surgery because everybody does things differently. Also, he has examined you and knows how his usual patients recover. Please ask him directly for the best answer. The truth is probably about two weeks though.

Recovery after Temporalplasty

You are having an extensive temporalplasty to lift he lateral eyebrows and the cheek skin as well as upper and lower blepharoplasty . There are significant differences in patients comparing the degree of swelling and the length of recovery, but I would suggest allowing two weeks before resuming normal activities.

Also known as a temple lift.

Dear Irisheyes Your doctor is suggesting you have an open temple lift with a four eyelid blepharoplasty. The down time on this very much depends on exactly what he is planning to do under that temple flap. At one time these were performed as skin only procedures. This is a great technique for cleaning up the forehead with surprisingly little down time. However, based on what you are describing it sounds like your doctor is planning to perform a midface lift through the temple... more
