Endoscopic Lipoma Resection
The first thing is to be certain that the diagnosis of lipoma is correct. Sometimes, you can other processes in that area that are not lipomas that need to be treated differently, which need to be removed completely including the capsule to prevent them from recurring. It is best to have it evaluated by a board certified surgeon before deciding on the surgical method to remove it.

Not all forehead "lipoma" are lipomas.
Some of these so-called lipomas are actually dermoids. Dermoids form developmentally taking off from a fusion line between facial bones. That is an important distinction because, dermoids can more readily be approached endoscopically. Lipomas sit higher in the soft tissue and can be much more difficult to approach endoscopically but then they can be debulked with liposuction. Liposuction would be inappropriate for a dermoid. It would depend on:
- is it really a benign lesion?
- is it a lipoma or an inclusion cyst?
- WHERE on the forehead is the lipoma is located?
- Is the lipoma mobile or fixed?
- Do you insist on this procedure because you want to avoid a visible scar on the forehead?
This is not commonly done. I have liposuctioned a forehead lipoma in a patient who did not want a visible scar but it was made clear that the recurrence rate could be high. It has been close to 4 years and it has not...
