I had an electrolysis treatment on my upper lip area, last April which caused deep scabbing. The scabbing was followed by red dots, and by the end of the summer, I was left with dark dots that looked like a mustache.
Also, within a two week time frame, in the fourth month after the treatment, I got these weird-looking wrinkles in the area the treatment was done where the pigmentation is.They look like grooves and ridges in an almost plaid design at the corners of my mouth and lines. How does electrolysis cause wrinkles and are they permanent?

Wow. As an Electrologist for almost 10 years, your situations sounds rare. You should really talk to your electrologist about what has happened. Its hard to visualise what has happened to your lip but from my knowledge it sounds like your electrologist had no idea what he or she was doing. First of all the heat setting was wayyyyyy to high therefore caused the scabs that tuned into dark spots or hyperpigmentation. Along with that proper After care was not used on your part which should have been explained to you. Just part of aftercare is applying hydro-cortisone cream or neosporin cream to aid your skin to heal. you must also utilize a good moisturiser which explains why you may have gotten wrinkles. A complete lack of moisture do to severe burns. The electrologist could have also been practicing with improper insertions which made the situation worse. im so sorry you went through that. that should have never happened. There are prescriptions that dermatologist provide that help with hyperpigmentation. I have used some myself before when i tried laser on my lip. i had a similar affect. Be very gentle with the area dont pick at it and moisturizes several times a day. Aid your body in its ability to heal itself by drinking plenty of water and eating healthy foods. vitamin e helps for scarring as well. put some on every night. if your situation is a lot worse than all of my suggestions i would consider seeking skin treatments with a dermatologist. - Arlena Tomboulian Parker,Electrologist, Electrolysis Studio City, CA
