Acne scars on the back are best treated with a combination of ablative and non ablative fractional laser treatments unless the scars are keloids. Keloids are thick, lumpy, painful or itchy scars that may also require injections of triamcinolone or 5FU.

Subcision (literally having a NoKor needle placed into the skin repeatedly) can often significantly improve acne scars (see Dermatologic Surgery article by Murad Alam).
