What Effect Does Alcohol Have on Dental Implants?

Will drinking alcohol decrease the life of my implants? What foods or medications negatively effect implants?

Implants and alcohol

I don't believe moderate alcohol will be a problem for implants. Smoking has definitely been shown to cause implant problems and failures though. If there is one thing to avoid with dental implants, it's smoking.

Dental Implants and what to avoid

There’s currently no research that links alcohol to complication with dental implants. I would imagine that abuse could cause problems with your immune system making you more susceptible to infections. Alcohol in moderation should not create any problems. However, cigarettes have been linked to peri implantitis, which is an infection of the dental implant. As long as you stay away from cigarettes your implant should have a high chance of being successful. ... more

Alcohol and implants

Alcohol in moderartion should not affect dental implants. Escessive use causes drying of the mouth which can cause inflamation arournd the teeth and implants.
