The last 2-3 weeks, i have been regularly applying the minoxidil 2% solution 1ml twice daily on my scalp. I consulted another dermatologist who asked me to discontinue minoxidil as when one stops using minoxidil, they experience hair loss again. She instead prescribed the following: 1. Androanagen tablet. 1 daily for 6 months 2. Juene hair cream - twice daily for 6 months 3. Alpecin liquid - 2ml once daily for 6 months 4. Tricho gro gel - once daily (when i wash my hair) 5. Neogenic Shampoo
Answer: Choose the doctor you like You need an exam and some laboratory work up (blood test). Then the doctor will give you a diagnosis and a treatment plan. It seems one doctor gave you an inexpensive option. The other gave you an expensive option. The smarter doctor is not always the rich doctor.

Answer: Treatments for female pattern hair loss Without seeing your scalp and knowing more about your history, I can't provide advice on diagnosis or treatment. But a few generalizations may be helpful1. In general, all treatments for female hair thinning (androgenetic alopecia) are lifelong. Every treatment we know of will cause hair loss again if stopped. 2. I hear many patients tell me that they don't want to use minoxidil because they have heard that if they stop they will lose hair again. Those same rules apply for every single hair loss treatment for genetic hair loss. 3. Minoxidil remains the only FDA approved treatment for female pattern hair loss. Other options for genetic thinning in women include spironolactone, low level laser, and platelet rich plasma. These all have scientific evidence for their benefit with more than 10 scientific studies each.4. While minoxidil does not help everyone, it helps a small proportion. Most treatments have little, if any, scientific evidence for helping hair loss in women with androgenetic alopecia.

Answer: Female Hair Loss in a 23 year old Female hair loss in a 23 year old is unusual. It could be genetic and if it is, it is often present in the female family line (mother, sister, grandmother from either side of the family). Rapid weight loss can cause hair loss as well. There are many diseases that cause hair loss which should be evaluated as well including thyroid disease. These diseases can be evaluated by your family doctor by performing some simple blood tests including: Sex Hormone testsSHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin) used to test status of male hormonesEstradiol is a sex hormoneFSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) *not hair follicle but follicle in the ovary*LH (Luteinizing Hormone) is a sex hormoneFree TestosteroneTotal TestosteroneANA (Anti Nuclear Antibody) used to test for Lupus or other autoimmune diseasesTSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) used to test for hyper or hypo-thyroid diseaseTest Iron statusTIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity)FerritinIron
