Which Dr. Do I Listen To?

I am a 46 yr old female. Orthodontist tells me I need lower jaw surgery to correct overbite. My top front teeth have ground off bottom front teeth to baby size teeth. He says teeth continue to grow until they bump into each other and soon mine will be completely gone. Family dentist says he's been monitoring them and they're not getting worse. I don't want jaw surgery if I don't need it! How do I make an informed decision? Any help is greatly appreciated!
