Juvederm Helps Smooth Laugh Lines and Restore Facial Volume

Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus are two types of injectable filler materials derived from hyaluronic acid (HA).

Juvederm Ultra is a lighter material and is used to fill mild lines or grooves as well as to enhance lips.

Juvederm Ultra Plus is made of a heavier material and is better for deeper grooves.  It is also used to restore facial volume that is lost with age, most notably in the midface.

These materials last 6-9 months.  They will last longer in less mobile areas.

Some physicians will use topical anesthetics, a nerve block inside the mouth (similar to the dentist), or a combination fo the two.  Some will mix local anesthetics with the filler material.  In addition, some clinicians will use cold compresses before and after the injection to reduce bruising and swelling.

As long as it is not contraindicated, try to avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs before or after the injection.  This will help minimize the likelihood of bruising associated with the injection.

Be sure to clearly communicate your goals with your physician before the injection.  Only by understanding all of your options will you obtain the knowledge and results you desire.

Juvederm works great for laugh lines (aka nasolabial folds)

Juvederm is one of several Hyaluronic Acid Fillers. In the USA, Juvederm comes in two forms, Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. They are both made of the same material.

  • The Juvederm Ultra is a little thinner and  may be a bit better for mild to moderate defects in the laugh lines.
  • The Juvederm Ultra Plus is a little bit thicker and may be a bit better for moderate to severe defects in the laugh lines.

The most important choice in fillers to correct laugh lines is the injectors preference! If you have a good injector with lots of experience, then have a talk about the pros and cons of the fillers from the injectors point of view. Trying to convince the injector to use the filler you want rather than the filler that the injector recommends is not likely going to give you a better result!

Juvederm and other hyaluronic acid fillers work great for smile and laugh lines

Juvederm and other hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as Restylane work very well for the lines from the nose to the mouth and the parenthesis around the mouth or, in medical terms, the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. I use both of these fillers on a daily basis in my Beverly Hills practice with great success. These are safe and effective materials and, while temporary, I can get them to last 6-12 months, depending upon where I inject them.

But beware of permanent fillers such as Artefill/Artecoll and silicone. These can cause severe reactions years after they have been injected. Remember, permanent fillers can cause permanent effects.

One cannibal said to the other, "Does this clown taste funny to you?"

Juvederm is a great soft tissue filler. It works very well on the "laugh lines" around the mouth, the nasolabial folds. The laugh lines around the eyes or "crow's feet" are better treated with Botox.

So keep on laughing; remember that smiling is the best form of "plastic surgery".

Juvederm Does Treat Laugh Lines- And More

Juvederm is a brand of skin filler that I use a lot in my office. Its active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in our skin and joints.

When Juvederm is used on the lower face, it can last from roughly 5 to 9 months, depending on the individual. The exception here is when Juvederm is used for lip augmentation; it then lasts roughly 4 to 5 months.

There are two types of Juvederm. Juvederm Ultra, a medium-thickness filler, works well for these problems:

  • Mild to moderate lines from the nose to mouth (“Laugh Lines” or “Smile Lines”)
  • Mild to moderate lines from the corners of the mouth down (“Marionette Lines”)
  • “Smoker’s Lines” around the lips

Juvederm Ultra is also great to help increase lip fullness or definition lost over time.

Like Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus also contains hyaluronic acid, but it is thicker than Juvederm Ultra. It works very well for moderate to severe “Smile Lines” and “Marionette Lines.”

Remember- It’s Your Face! Always seek out a Medical Doctor with extensive experience in Juvederm injections and nerve block injections for best results. Your doctor will be able to tell you if Juvederm, or another filler, is best for you.
