Maximum reduction in nasal width varies from person to person

There is no “maximum” that can be stated to apply universally to everyone. Rather, this completely depends on the individual nose and person. There are a lot of factors that would go into making that decision, such as facial proportions, bony and cartilaginous structures, skin thickness etc. Rhinoplasty is as much an art as it is a science. Therefore, individuality is the key in determining each patient’s needs and aesthetics.

Limits to nasal bone reduction

It is difficult to give a percentage of reduction since there are many variables to consider, such as how large of a hump is present that has been removed and how wide the preexisting nasal bones are, how thick the nasal bones are, and the narrowness at the glabella or the total width at the piriform aperture. This is best addressed at the time of an in-person consultation with a physical examination by the rhinoplasty surgeon.

Reducing Nasal Width Limitations in Rhinoplasty

Nasal width is limited by skin envelope and ability to osteotomize nasal bones without creating obstruction. Skin envelope also limits the ability to reduce the size of the tip. The cartilage construct at the tip should never be reduced to achieve a cosmetic result that impairs breathing.

Nasal reduction

There is no maximum or minimum reduction of the nose. It is really based upon the shape you are looking for.

Further, the width of the nasal bridge should blend with the rest of your facial features and be in harmony with the aesthetic line from the brow to the nasal tip. In short, there isn't a limitation on how much the bridge can be narrowed but your surgeon will want you to breathe through your nose and to have an aesthetically balanced nasal bridge which will limit how much... more
