To make choices about treatments, it will be important to learn what chemical peels do and what issues need to be addressed when treating acne.

Chemical peels work by exfoliating the outer skin layer. However, they may or may not be able to dislodge the blockages in your skin pores. Individuals with more severe forms of acne often have deep blockages that are produced by the skin itself.

There are other forms of acne treatment that are more likely to give reliable results. These include:  photodynamic therapy and lasers.

As an example, here is a patient who underwent laser treatment for acne.

A Beta peel using Salicylic Acid can be used as an adjunct to the usual acne treatment such as antibiotics, topicals, Vitamins etc. Peels are ony mildly helpful compared to the other weapons we have at our disposal.
