Black or No Black for Formal Events

Think of black as the backdrop or frame for your robust, sparkling personality and radiant, charming face. Utilizing excellent makeup application and a hairstyle perfectly suited to your frame and unique sense of style are even more important than the dress.

However, that said, black is not particularly good for a formal wedding reception, so depending on the time of year and event, black may or may not work. Alternate choices of course can be a wide variety of gray tones from steel to dove, or blue from midnight to royal and brown from taupe to copper.

Texture and sheen are also other ways to add interest, like velvet and satin next to each other. And well chosen accessories kept to a minimum can certainly round out your overall look or add that dash of colour you may crave.

All in all, black is beautiful though and is the perfect picture frame, camouflage tool and sensual colour.

A dress code for formal events

If black is a must for the dress code of the event, you should wear black. You still can introduce your colours as well as your personality by accessories. For instance for men, using the white shirt from the colour palette and adding the tie with your own colours makes a big difference. For women, jewelry and suitable accessories from the seasonal colour palette attracts all the attention. A woman should still wear the make-up of her own colour palette.

If black is not a must colour, you should try to wear the darkest possible colour from your colour palette. For instance, you can prefer to wear dark brown instead of black or dark navy to replace black.

Pay attention to the psychological effects of a colour before using it for an occasion. For example, too much brown can give the perception of being a boring person.
