For years I have never liked the way my nose looked and have always wanted to change it. I was just curious if there was a way to make it so that the bump on my nose could be less noticeable.
Answer: Surgery vs. injectable rhinoplasty Thank you for your question,Looking at just the side view you could improve your profile with either a rhinoplasty surgery to lower raised part of the bridge of your nose. You could also get some improvement by using a filler in the low part of the upper bridge of your nose-this option is an easy in office treatment, the results are not as dramatic and it is not permeant. The advantage is that is quick, painless and relatively inexpensive.I hope this helpsDr. Wayne

Answer: What can I do to make my dorsal hump less noticeable? Hyaluronic fillers can elevate the depressed area above the hump, called the radix, and camouflage the hump producing a modest cosmetic improvement. They generally last 6-9 months. Micro-fat grafts are a more permanent filler, but require a more involved procedure. There are synthetic permanent fillers, but most plastic surgeons would warn against using them, especially in the nasal area because of the long term potential complications. Fillers will not produce the same long term balanced cosmetic result that can be achieved with an artistically performed natural appearing rhinoplasty. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do based on limited two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of each procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest that you find a surgeon certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

I would need to feel this in order to determine whether or not you would need a full rhinoplasty. See a very experienced rhinoplasty surgeon.

Answer: Dorsal Hump Thank you for your question. The best treatment for a dorsal hump is surgery (rhinoplasty). It requires removal of the bump which is composed of both cartilage and bone. Removal of a dorsal hump often leads to a wide area where it was removed from. This is is termed an open roof. During surgery, the open roof is closed by osteotomies to either return the dorsum to its previous width or sometimes to narrow it further. Seek consultation with a rhinoplasty specialist in your area who can guide you through the process. All the best!
