Can Diabetes Complicate Lap Band Recovery?

Does type 1 diabetes cause problems recovering from bariatric surgery? Do most diabetics do well after the procedure?

Diabetes and risk of weight loss surgery

Type 1 Diabetic patients that choose to have a lap band procedure should be concerned with wound complications post op knowing that diabetic patients have impaired wound healing as compared to non-diabetics. A lap band port site incision may develop and infection and this requires removal of the port and usually two additional procedures.
