I've Developed 2 Abcesses and Need Root Canals Before Surgery. Should I Postpone my Surgery?

My surgery was recently scheduled for November, but I've developed 2 painful abscesses in my gums, and two teeth hurt like crazy. I saw a dentist and he advised he believes I need root canals. Should I postpone it and have this treated, or should I go into surgery like this?
