Will I Develop an Open-roof Deformity After my Nose Job?

I had a nose job a few days ago and am still wearing the nasal splint. My nose is narrow and straight with a small tip and thin skin, but it had a hump. I had a closed rhinoplasty procedure to correct the hump. My surgeon told me that he didn't need to break the bones as the nose was stable and thought that by bringing the bones together it would create a pinched nose job look. I trust my surgeon but am worried about an open-roof deformity developing.

Open Roof Deformity after Rhinoplasty

For those who are not sure what an 'open roof deformity" is, this is caused by the separation of the nasal bones at the dorsum. It is possible to remove a small hump without osteotomies and avoid the open roof problem. Why do you not believe the surgeon that you trusted to operate on your face?

You answered your own question. At this point you need to trust your surgeon. You had confidence in choosing him so stay with the program. Small hump removals don't always need osteotomies.

Will I develop an open roof deformity after my Rhinoplasty?

If you have a significant hump or bump on the toip of your nose that is due to the nasal bones and it is removed without breaking the sides, of the nasl bones, there's a good chance that you will have an open rof by definition. I agree that you should trust your Rhinoplasty surgeon and just wait and see what your nose looks like at 6 months. If the bridge is wider and has apparent indentations, you have an open roof. If your dorsal hump was mostly cartilage, this would... more

Open roof after rhinoplasty

The open roof after rhinoplasty will only occur if the hump is reduced enough to leave a visible gap between the nasal bone and the septum. Often in addition to fracture, spreader grafts will fill the void, or the upper cartilages in the bridge will cover, or for some thin grafts will cover nicely. The open roof can show irregularity with thin skin, or for a very few be uncomfortable in cold weather. Perhaps you surgeon handled things in one of these other ways. Best of luck... more

Open Roof Deformity

It is too early to get worried. You just had surgery and it sounds like your surgeon said that everything went well. If you have specific concerns, then you should address these with your surgeon at your post op appointment. Good Luck.

Open roof deformity post rhinoplasty

You need to trust your surgeons evaluation of your nose. If you had only a small bump, then removal of that bump should not cause an open roof deformity or widened flat nose. Breaking the bones and narrowing the nose is not performed on every case.
