I had rhinoplasty 4 years ago with a columella strut graft. I notice that the columella is not attached to my septum and my enitre nose moves when I talk. I had a columella strut graft places in the nose. I was wondering if this can cause my upper lip to appear lower not move as it did before surgery? Can it be fixed?

Columellar strut and lip

Columellar struts can affect shape and stiffness of the lip - It is extremely difficult to answer your questions without seeing your photos or examining you – it would be very helpful to post images showing your areas of concern

Problems with upper lip after rhinoplasty

Any movement of the tip is caused from the depressor septi muscle, which was most likely not addressed at the time of the surgery. Cartilaginous strut grafts typically make the tip quite stiff and immobile. This can certainly be addressed through revision rhinoplasty surgery. It is important to have a very experienced rhinoplasty surgeon performing any type of revision rhinoplasty surgery.

Effect of Columellar Strut

I've not had nasal surgery, but my nasal tip moves with talking and facial animation. With normal anatomy the columella is only loosely attached to the septum. A columellar strut will not change lip position or effect lip movement. See your rhinoplasty surgeon to evaluate your observations.

Columella strut and lip movement

It is unikley that a struyt graft has caused the problem that you are concenred about..  A columella strut graft adds support to the tip and usually doe not cause a rigid nose at the base.
