Why Won't Dermatologists Remove the Mole Completely?

My doc says a freckle-type spot needs to be removed. He only wants to do a 'shave' biopsy, send it to pathology, THEN bring me back to remove the rest. I want them to take the entire spot, then send the tissue to pathology. If it comes back bad, then I will do further tissue removal. Other docs refuse to remove it completely, too. Why the resistance? I am happy to pay in advance if there is a question about 'cosmetic procedure' vs insurance-paid carcinoma. I live in Denver. Suggestions?

Best to discuss... more

Mole removal

Your plan of removing the mole completely and send it for biobsy, is much logical. Since if there is any thing to be concerned about then the pathologist has a better chance of proper diagnosis and in case of melanomas to stage the tumor. Shaving will not do that.
