Are temporary veneers necessary to protect the shaven down teeth?

Hi there,The temporary veneers are in place to protect the Dr.'s tooth preps and to protect you from hot/cold tooth sensitivity pain.  Temporary veneers are just that, Temporary.  So, they are usually fragile and should be treated with care by consuming only soft foods and liquids.  If you your temporary veneers start to come off, this may be fine, as long as you are not in pain and you do not fracture the preps.  If you are in pain, I would recommend calling your current dental office and asking them who does your dentist send his/her patients to during vacation.  Good luck and I hope this helps. The temporary veneers are necessary to protect the area that your dentist has prepared for your permanent veneers and to help keep you from feeling sensitivity. Try to be cautious with what you eat until your dentist returns. If they degrade significantly contact their office to find out if there's an  alternate dentist available for emergencies or contact another nearby cosmetic dentist for help.Good luck.

No, it is not ok to leave prepared teeth without coverage. The doctor should have someone on call to help you.
