Post op care for breast reduction scar

Congratulations on having had the surgery. Many patients are pleasantly surprised that the postop pain was better than anticipated. At this point, your sutures should still be in place and the "extensive scarring" you describe is not a scar, yet, but a healing surgical wound. If silicone sheeting is necessary, you doctor will recommend it, probably no earlier than 8 weeks after surgery. Breast reduction scarring

That is great that you do not have significant post-op pain. Most patients do not. As for the scarring, surgeons offer different things and you should ask yours how he/she likes to handle them. Thank you for the question and congratulations on your breast reduction procedure. This tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations ww perform. Your surgeon will have specific recommendations for you in regards to scar care. If not, you may want to inquire about the use of silicone-based products. Best wishes.

I would be really upset if my patients were following instructions from other surgeons and patients of other surgeons on the internet rather than the instructions I know in my practice will lead them to a lovely and inconspicuous scar. I agree with Dr. Rand- you owe it to your surgeon to follow their... more
