Damaged Skin Texture from Chemical Peel?

I had a Vi peel done 8 months ago. My skin peeled and then 2 weeks later the skin turned rough, dry, and scaly. It is still the same way.The skin texture has not gone back to normal. It feels like sandpaper all over.If I try to wear makeup it just collects on the rough skin.I have been washing with the gentlest cleanser and moisturizing with CeraVe cream.I use sunblock as well during the day.My skin does not seem to be improving. Is this permanent and is there anything I can do to fix this?

Change in skin texture after VI Peel.

I have not seen a problem with VI peels causing long term rough, dry texture. I would recommend Renova or a low dose retinol to help improve the texture.

Vi Peel and skin texture

I have been performing Vi Peels for years and have never run into this problem. I think you should return to the physician who performed the peel so that he or she can evaluate your condition. Perhaps you have a completely different problem such as eczema or seborrheic dermatitis that happened coincidently after your procedure and can be easily treated.

I am wondering if perhaps you have accidently created a chronic inflammatory reaction to the overdrying of your skin. If so, this condition will continue until you break the cycle. This has happened to me one time and also to my son who was using too many different medicines to clear up a mild case of acne. He developed chronic red, dry, patchy skin that was sore and awful looking. No amount of lotions seemed to help. After a few weeks of this, he called me and I had him try the remedy that worked for me. It solved his problem within a few days. Here is what helped in both of our cases: After washing the hands with Soft Soap liquid hand soap and water, wash face and neck with clean hands (no wash cloths) and gently pat almost dry with clean paper towel, leaving the skin with some moisture. Then, apply a mixture of Cetaphil moisturizing lotion and Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum all over the affected areas. (I blend both on the back of one hand together to make a creamy paste, then apply with the other hand to the affected areas.) Make sure you apply enough to thoroughly saturate the areas. Allow to soak in. Reapply the 2 moisture products together multiple times a day as needed. Within a day or so, you should see a very clear improvement. This seemed to stop the peeling, dry reaction and the skin healed up and went back to normal. Let me know if this helps you.

Based on my own experience, keep well away from tretinoid or retinol creams as they will create new areas of dry patchy, scaly skin. When you first apply the cream it will 'appear' to be of an improvement in texture but within hours or next day skin will be greatly irritated. I also tried many creams intended for use by those suffering from eczema and psoriasis but actually they all did not improve the condition and seemed to irritate it. I found relief using organic jojoba oil for both cleansing and moisturising;but do not cleanse too much. Once every second maybe-I know it's gross but you really have to give your skin a break. At times I wondered if even water was aggravating my skin. Then after some months I would recommend a very good milk cleanser and hyaluronic serum, hyaluronic spray mist and also hyaluronic moisturizer. You may want to do the odd exfoliation with some crystals but beware you may get rid of the 'dry' patches but will have to put up with red patches of inflamed skin for a few days(it dies down and rids of the scalyness) One other excellent thing I recently discovered to put moisture back in the skin (which immediately improves the appearance of rough skin as it 'plumps' out) is to make a protein mask of an egg yolk, 2 tblspns of oatmeal porridge(natural) and add a little milk to your desired consistency and put it all over the face and neck, leave for 10-15 mins then rinse off with tepid water(tepid water for EVERYTHING with this kind of skin) It will really feel soft! I haven't really answered your question how to fix the texture but these things will coax your skin back to an optimal condition so you can decide wether or not you wish to try to correct the damage by another peel or laser or wether you just want to restore it to 'behaving' like normal skin as you run further risks with more procedures. (research as much as you can before you do anything else) Above all, time is better than anything else.
