A cup Probably not Reasonable after breast reduction
Hi there-
If you are starting out a D cup, it is probably not reasonable to believe an A cup is possible for you.
The blood supply to the breasts, and the need to maintain some tissue to remodel into a pleasing breast shape would prohibit such a drastic change. In other words, there is a limit to how much you can safely reduce a breast.

Breast reduction to an "A" cup is possible but...

Breast reduction and cup size
Without an exam it is difficult to suggest what would work for you. But in general, I have never reduced someone to an "A" cup in a reduction. Taking someone to an "A" cup would in all likelihood not leave a reasonable shape to the breast.

Thank you for the question and congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery. It is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform.
“What is best" for you as a very personal question that you will be addressing with your plastic surgeon. Your aesthetic breast size preference, your activity level, and the proportions of upper and lower body are some of the factors to consider when deciding on how much of a breast reduction to undergo....
