Rhinoplasty: Q&A

How is a Crooked/twisted Nose Corrected? Is It an Expensive Procedure? (photo)

I suffered some heavy trauma to the nose this past year and while i do not think it "broke" at any point, i am sure some of the cartilages were severely damaged. I did not seek any medical help as these happened during sports and i wasn't too concerned. But i started noticing that it leans to my left and that is when i panicked. It looks awfully asymmetrical and unattractive (i also have a big nose to begin with) so i wanna get it fixed. If i push on it manually, will it reset?

Rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty is needed to improve form and correct function after apparent nasal trauma

First - no, pushing on your nose manually will not fix the crookedness. You need surgery - rhinoplasty or, likely, septorhinoplasty. Cost varies depending on a number of factors which you should discuss with a board certified facial plastic surgeon. General Approach in Fixing a Crooked Nose: When considering fixing a crooked nose, the nose is generally considered in terms of two regions: bony portion of the nose between the "nasion"- at the junction between the nasal bones and... more

How is a crooked/twisted nose corrected?

Hello, and sorry to hear about your injury. I would not recommend attempting to manipulate your nose. Depending on how long it has been since the trauma, a closed nasal reduction can be performed. This is typically performed within a week of any trauma that took place. It would be best to have your nose examined by a board certified rhinoplasty specialist. He/she will be able to assess your nose in person and provide you with recommendations. In general, surgery would be necessary to correct... more

Correction of the crooked nose during rhinoplasty

This is a very common issue for which patients come seeking a rhinoplasty. It's likely that you fractured your nasal bones towards your left during one of these sports-related nasal traumas. Within the first 2-3 weeks, the nasal bones can be pushed back into place, what's called a closed reduction. Once this window of time has passed, straightening the nose requires a functional rhinoplasty, also called a nasal reconstruction. The bones can be moved by creating small, controlled fractures... more

Correction of a crooked nose

Hi If someone breaks his/her nose, it can be manipulated within the first few days. Once the tissue settles in a crooked position, just pushing your nose is not going to change it. Crooked/deviated nose is a common reason for rhinoplasty - the operation involves (depending on what needs correcting) separating/repositioning of the bones and cartilages of the nose including the midline septum. In UK it costs about £4-5000 depending on what needs to be done.

Septorhinoplasty Needed to Straighten and Reshape Nose

No amount of external compression is going to change your deviated nose. For correction this is going to require an open septorhinoplasty as it is not just one thing (deviated septum) that is making your nose look the way it does. Basically your entire nasal structure needs to be changed as well as straightened to get the best result.

Repairing Crooked Nose Deformity

Looking at the photo, it certainly looks like you might benefit from plastic surgery of the nose. In all likelihood pushing on the nose manually will not reset the nose to its proper position. Surgery is going to be required by an expert rhinoplasty surgeon. Do your homework and consult with someone who has documented (photos) experience in managing the crooked nose deformity. There is a reason why many plastic surgeons only show profile views in their before and after galleries - that is... more
