I'd like to correct my deviated septum and broken nose, but I'm a CPAP user. After a septoplasty or rhinoplasty, how long would I be unable to wear a CPAP mask (which puts pressure either on the bridge of the nose or the nostrils)?

CPAP after Septorhinoplasty

There are many variations of the CPAP masks.  I know of one that does not put any pressure on the nose. You will not be able to use the device in the immediate post-op period when you have total nasal obstruction. Consult with the physician who treats your sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea and rhinoplasty

Dear rhinoplasty patient from Colorado, Septorhinoplasty is performed on patients with sleep apnea to improve their airways. You may need to get another CPAP mask that does not cover your nose. Talk to your ENT physician for better guidance. Good luck

CPAP after rhinoplasty

This answer really depends on your specific situation. If the surgery really only involves the airway, you can likely start using the CPAP immediately. If you are going to have any bony work done (with osteotomies), you need to discuss this with both your rhinoplasty surgeon and your physician who manages your sleep apnea.

CPAP use after septoplasty/rhinoplasty

It is important to continue to use your CPAP machine the first night immediately after the procedure. It will be uncomfortable. Consideration for an overnight hospital stay to monitor oxygen saturation the first night after surgery is encouraged.

CPAP after septorhinoplasty

Hello, You may not need the CPAP after surgery. The apnea may resolve. It is ok to wear a mask as long as there is no pressure on the nose. Thank you, and I hope this helps. Dr. Nassif

How long to wait after septo-rhinoplasty before using CPAP again

How long you should hold off on using your CPAP depends on what is specifically done during surgery. If controlled bone fractures (osteotomies) are done to straighten the nasal bones you'd want to wait 6 weeks before having pressure on your bridge to allow the bones to reset.  There are different CPAP attachments that don't sit on your bridge that may be a good alternative (e.g. nasal pillow type that fits just in the nostrils). I usually have patients wait at least... more
