Do you think Costa Rica is safe for cosmetic surgery?

i want to get a tummy tuck and while at it a breast lift or breast implants (silicone ones now that they r safer). also may need a small bit of liposcution.  a plastic surgeon near my home told me the price tag for all this work would be more than 20k.  Wowza. So that made me start reseacrhing and looking for alts like going abroad for surgery. Costa rica sounds most appealing for a recovery.  but is costa rica safe for cosmetic surgery? bad infections more likely? hard to communicate with your doctor? etc.  thnks v. much

Hi everyone, If you're considering traveling abroad for plastic surgery, I highly recommend reading Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Robin Yuan's response to this question - Cosmetic surgery abroad: finding the right surgeon.

I just want to say you're doing a horrible disservice to those of us searching for information when you don't allow the doctors names to be posted in the thread. I just visited the area suggested for "Dr. recommendations" and don't see ANYTHING for Costa Rica. Some people had some VERY strong feelings of being badly treated. This is freaking me out. I live in Costa Rica and am in the process of choosing my Dr. and I will now have to do this without the benefit of the experiences here on this thread because you removed the names.

I had surgery in CR back in Dec and am happy with Dr Rodrigo Araya. I was at CIMA hospital one night post op and Villa LeMas Recovery Center. Melissa and Petra are awesome, and every need was met professionally and in detail. Dr. Araya is excellent! Whomever you choose, be sure to communicate everything . . .every question, every concern, every thing you wish done and do not wish done. Also, be very aware that there are docs in CR who may perform too many surgeries at one time. Do your research carefully, and plan on staying in CR for at LEAST two weeks post op.

OMG, you poor people, after spending probably 50 to 60 hours online reseaching this and had decided on RL myself, the one comment and concern that kept coming up was the clinic seemed very busy and the posibilties of too many surgeries going on at the same time was a concern, I'm so sorry for your problems but thank you so much for sharing them on here.

Very important, I noticed many of you refer to "abroad" or "foreign" as a whole, however when it comes to any type of medical procedures, there is two countrys that can NOT be put in a generalized group, this are COLOMBIA and COSTA RICA, this two countrys have tecnology, knowledge and experience meeting and in some cases exceeding by far those found in our USA and Europe. Don't take my word for it, research this goverment's education and profesional regulation standards, plus you just have to take a look of their women!...

You can have a "safe" cosmetic surgery in Costa Rica if you choose the right surgeon and clinic or hospital. I think it applies not only in Costa Rica but to any other places in the world - even US! If you go to Costa Rica for an affordable plastic surgery, go the the one that's known to have good results - which means that this surgeon or medical center may be expensive in their place but affordable to us due to our advantage in the forex. I think a patient cannot just do it on his/her own in searching for an excellent service "abroad." Having a mediator like medical tourism advisers or companies can help a lot.

Everyone says that you have to make sure you pick the right hospital and the right surgeon. How do you do that?? I think the best and only way is reading the testimonies of former patients. That's why I joined this forum, hoping to read specific testimonies. So here is my question: Has anyone had a tummy tuck or a breast lift done by any of the surgeons on this website: www.arrivacostarica.com. If so, who was the surgeon and are you happy with the results.
