Is Cool Lipo better than Smart Lipo?
It sounds like Cool Lipo and Smart Lipo are very similar. CoolLipo uses a different wavelength laser (1064 nm) than SmartLipo (1320 nm). Is one better than the other?
On CoolLipo website it says the laser does many things I see on the Smartlipo website like "Gentle fat disruption and removal technique for small areas" and "Treats areas that are difficult for conventional liposuction"
SmartLipo MPX Trumps All!
Robert Clinton, MD
SmartLipo MPX was recently released by Cynosure and totally rebuts claims that Cool Lipo has a better wavelength. SmartLipo MPX uses both the 1064 and 1320nm wavelengths simultaneously!
No other lipo laser can come close to this.
Here are some key facts that not everyone knows or is able to keep up on. This market changes every couple of months!
- All of the laser lipo lasers can rupture cell membranes with appropriate energy.
- SmartLipo 1064nm wavelength targets blood vessels, resulting in less bleeding and bruising than other lasers.
- SmartLipo can tighten skin by heating the dermis. I use an infrared thermometer to monitor the skin temperature. Optimal temperatures have been reported around 40 degrees Celsius.
- SmartLipo started at 6 watts last year, then offered an upgrade to 10 watts, THEN offered an upgrade to 18 WATTS!
- SmartLipo MPX is 20 Watts of 1064nm and 12 Watts of 1320nm (TOTAL OF 32 WATTS!) These can fire simultaneously. WOW!
- CoolLipo only has 1320nm at 15 watts. This wavelength is great for targeting water and does result in skin tightening. It's a nice laser for physicians that weren't able to afford SmartLipo or didn't realize that Cynosure was always going to keep upgrading SmartLipo as new research emerged.
There are several other lasers coming into the American market that can treat fat to some extent. Some will be more effective than others. I have tried several of them and haven't found any of them to be "bad". However, I know I can trust Cynosure and the strength of their company.
SmartLipo started as the best and maintains that position by constantly improving on their incredible product!
Cool Lipo and Smart Lipo are both good choices
Dr. Mitchel Goldman
Both Cool Lipo and Smart Lipo are safe and effective in maximizing the results of liposculpture as well as tightening skin. Clinical studies are presently being performed to see if there is a unique advantage of one system over the other. At this time (11/20/07) there is no proof that one system is better than the other.
The difference between Cool Lipo and Smart Lipo
Dr. Virginia Stevens
Cool Lipo™ performs laser lipolysis (fat melting) and skin tightening in the same procedure. Cool Lipo™ is a newer generation laser than Smart Lipo, which also can do laser lipolysis, but cannot accomplish the same skin tightening as Cool Lipo™. There are some differences in the Cool Lipo™ and Smart Lipo systems:
- Cool Lipo has a max energy output of 15 watts, Smart Lipo 10 watts. This difference renders Cool Lipo more efficient at lipolysis (fat melting).
- Smart Lipo laser has a wavelength of 1064, which is best at targeting blood and colored structures. Cool Lipo laser has a wavelength of 1320, which targets collagen and water within the collagen, such as in the skin.
- Between the two, Cool Lipo is more appropriate and effective for skin tightening after the removal of the fat. Tightening the lax skin after removal of the fat underneath is important in obtaining a pleasing outcome.
- For professionals, the Cool Lipo™ laser system is much more cost effective, at less than $90,000; Smart Lipo costs in excess of $110,000.
