Will I Be Okay to Go to College 3 Weeks After Rhinoplasty?

I'm having a closed surgery on August 11, 2010. I will be starting college September 2, 2010! My nose is not awful, and it will require "minimal" surgery (removing a small bump and making the tip a little smaller). While I understand that I will not be starting college on September 2nd with a bruised puffy face, I am VERY concerned that my tip will be swollen like a clown nose, and will look WORSE than before. So, is it unwise to do the surgery now?

Collage 3 Weeks after Rhinoplasty

You will not look worse 3 weeks after rhinoplasty. I advise celebrity patients they can be in front of the cameras 3 weeks post-op. You will not have any problems unless you play on your collage football team.

Rhinoplasty and recovery

3 weeks of recovery should probably be enough time to get back to routine acitivities and be in public comfortably.  However, it is impossible to predict how much swelling you will have.  A closed rhinoplasty will have less swelling  than an open one at 3 weeks.

Recovery is pretty quick after rhinoplasty.

Hi. The question you are asking seems to do with trust.  Surely, if you trust someone to operate on your nose, you can trust what your surgeon tells you about the recovery? see video

Rhinoplasty swelling

Usually when one has a closed rhinoplasty, the degree of swelling is less than that experienced following an open procedure. Patients who have osteotomies also tend to be more swollen and bruised after their surgeries. Judging from your description of the anticipated surgery, you will in all likelyhood look improved by September 2nd. This is however somewhat variable, and not many surgeons would give you any guarantees regarding the swelling. complications of the surgery such as... more

College should be OK three weeks after rhinoplasty

Of course four weeks is better, though you should be well healed and looking well by three weeks after a closed rhinoplasty. The tip of the nose does swell, though the swelling subsides after the first three days. When the splint is removed after six days you should look great except for nasal stuffiness and perhaps bruising. The bruising will clear as you return to college, nasal congestion will go on for several weeks longer. Remember to use sunscreen after the splint is off, and be... more

Rhinoplasty healing

Typically it takes about two weeks for the noticeable swelling to resolve after a rhinoplasty procedure. If it is a less extensive procedure it could be slightly quicker. You should be fine to go to college provided the outcome is good within two weeks after the procedure. Now, it can take up to one year for all of the swelling to resolve and the final tip shape and position to be determined. Most people should not be able to tell anything after about two weeks. I hope this information... more

Rhinoplasty and Life Events

My general rule for important life events (weddings, graduations, start of a new TV show or play, etc.) is a minimum of 3-4 months. Pictures from those events are often very important and will endure a lifetime. The same timing is true for concerns for nasal stability, as it relates to organized sports and the beginning of a sports season. If these are not concerns, then most people feel socially acceptable after rhinoplasty in about 2 weeks. The nose tends not to look awkward by... more

Ask your doctor

I assume you are paying your physician to do the surgery --- so ask him/her this question. Only the operating surgeon knows how their patients look 3 weeks later. Some doctors have more black and blue after surgery than others --- only they can give you the answer.
