I have eczema, a skin oondition where my skin will turn red, dry, itchy and flakey if I don't wash my skin and put on a moisturizer everyday. That said, how long after my nasal cast is taken off, from a rhinoplasty, can I wash my nose? I don't want to move my cartilage, but on the other hand, I don't want my nose to turn red and flaky. Also, what are the best / gentle ways to clean it without compromising my rhinoplasty results? Thanks for your help.

Skin care

Gentle cleanser and moisturizer can be used immediately after the splint removal. Abrasive cleaners should be avoided.

Cleaning your nose after rhinoplasty

Once the nasal splint comes off, you can begin gently cleaning your nose at that time. Definitely discuss this with your surgeon at the time of splint removal. We dispense a facial cleanser and sunscreen at the time of splint removal to help with skin cleaning and protection. Your surgeon may have his own protocol for skin cleaning. In general, cleaning the nose as soon as the splint comes off is safe.

Start right away

When the splint comes off the nose may be tender; however, you should start cleaning the skin right away or all sorts of junk may build up. Be gentle and use a gentle cleanser.
